Living Fit [Columbus] June updates

The last month has brought a lot of FIT memories including…

  • Short North walking tour ~ this was more food than fitness, but we did learn about spices and how to make dishes healthy, but tasty. And we did walk 1.5 miles, so it was some fitness!
  • POGA classes ~ Post your pics@ #Pogacolumbus
  • [Teresa, Joey & Carrie] A trip to Hilton Head which included walks and jogs on the beach, tennis, biking & beach yoga with Jiva Yoga Center
  • Our weekly runs ~ Thursdays with lululemon polaris and Saturdays @ Winans coffee shop in Dublin ~ including a few speed sessions @ the track
  • Watching the World Cup [this counts, right?!] U-S-A!
  • [Teresa, Joey & Peggy] Currently in Wisconsin, looking forward to our first ever Stand Up Paddleboard [SUP] yoga session on Sunday
  • Strength & movement class and a FITness photo shoot with Lori Crock from Movestrong Kettlebells in Dublin ~ RECAP BELOW….

Lori created a Strength and Movement class just for us runners!  What I love about Lori is that she asks your fitness goals and then creates custom workouts to meet those goals [vs having a set program and expecting you to adapt to it!]  We want to cross train and build strength as runners so she incorporated that into our routine.  

We met in her garage studio in the back, although she will soon be moving locations.  Lori had us do circuits of all things strength including rope climbing, ax chopping, kettle bell swinging and deadlifts… SO. MANY. DEADLIFTS!  Our heart rates were up the entire time and it was an excellent workout.  Its funny how your body adapts to certain exercises… I can run 6 miles with no side effects, but after Lori’s class I was sore [in a good way] for days.  My glutes were the most sore, those dang deadlifts!  I would highly recommend Lori if you are looking to mix up your normal routine.  She specializes in kettle bell classes, but also offers a variety of other movement classes.

Living Fit [Columbus] agenda for the week of June 9…

  • Tuesday – Speed sessions at Sells Middle School @ 4:30PM    Today-I-Shall-Be-One-Run-Stronger-Free-Inspirational-Running-Printables-From-FrugalBeautiful.com_

Several of our Living Fit members have registered for the Emerald City quarter or half marathon.  Speed training is essential if you are hoping for a new PR!  Check out our previous post on the benefits of speed training HERE.

 

  • Wednesday – Lift & Run, Strength & Movement Class @ 6:45PM

Movestrong Kettlebells with Lori

Had a great photoshoot today with Lori Crock from Movestrong Kettlebells.  1526639_290209001126676_550642638_nWe will share them with you soon [after she peeks first!]

Our Living Fit running group met up with Lori last Saturday for her Nature Run.  Check out her blog post HERE and make sure you attend one of these sometime ~ it was a blast!

We will also be taking one of Lori’s classes on Wednesday, June 11 @ 6PM 6:45-7:30PM~ a lift & run event.  More info to come, mark your calendars & hope you will join us!

Weekly FIT events

POGA was a blast this week, thanks to all who joined [both our group and just in general!]!  IMG_3101

We have heard only FABULOUS things about Nicole Salvo, her yogi methods, her amazing new juice bar… we will definitely be checking these out!

Living Fit [Columbus] agenda for today…

  • 8AM Nature Run w/ Lori Crock in downtown Dublin – MovNat Nature Run – natural movement using what the environment has to offer so this is more like a 2-3 mile run with strength training   1526639_290209001126676_550642638_n
  • 9-9:30 AM – Our regular group run at Winans in Dublin, coffee following at 9:30 (Peggy & I have to head out shortly after as we are attending the Short North Walking & Food Tour at 11, her Mother’s Day gift!)

**Both runs are FREE, come get in a good workout!

Tour of Columbus May Highlights

We have been traveling around Columbus trying new fitness activities at a rate that we can’t even keep up with!  Here is a quick recap of some of the places we visited this month [May 2014]…


Orange Theory Fitness DublinOrange-Theory-Fitness

We’ve been to OTF several times now.  We first went as a small group in May 2014 and then again as a larger group in Feb 2015.  Since, we’ve all attended various sessions here and there, with a few gals even joining as members.  We love OTF!  Recaps below.

May 2014

This was a cool experience!  Everyone wears a heart rate monitor.  The
COACH broke the class up into two groups.

Group 1 went to the treadmills.  Here you will do intervals between your base pace [green], push pace [orange] and all-out pace [red].  As the sign said at the entrance, “Fat prepare to die!”  This was the sweaty part and really got our heart rates up, which you can watch on the monitor.

Group 2 did HIIT intervals between the rowing machines and the TRX system.  Again, you can watch your heart rate on the monitor and adjust your effort levels accordingly.

The goal is to build up to being in the ORANGE zone for at least 12 minutes, which keeps your fat burning abilities up for a few hours post workout.  Awesome!

The hardest part was not knowing what comes next, how much there is left to go, etc.  So we didn’t know when to PUSH ourselves at the finish.  This will be easier on a second visit.  At the conclusion of the workout, you get an email itemizing your workout, very interesting and useful.

We enjoyed trying something new and plan to go back!

Feb 2015

A whole slew of us participated this time!  From both experience and word of mouth, we’ve learned that OTF can make us faster & stronger out there on the running trails.  We took this class to push our limits and we did!  We all had a blast and of course, posed for a group photo at the end.

My personal workout summary is below.  I spent a lot more time in the ‘orange’ zone than last time… 23 minutes in that fat burning zone!  When I go back, I’ll continue to get out of the green and spend more time in orange and red.  Screen Shot 2016-03-13 at 3.57.13 PM

We LOVED this experience.  WODs, weights and calorie-blasting!  Definitely out of my comfort zone, but its always great to push your own personal limits.  If you’re into a little friendly fitness competition, make sure you check this place out.

Girls on the Run 5K

A great cause that we were happy to support and be a part of.

  • There will be NO GROUP RUN tomorrow morning as we are checking out Friendship Crossfit.    See you at 8:50 for a nice change of pace!
  • We had our first #ptownrunclub meeting last night in Historic Dublin.  We did a nice 3.5 mile run and met some new people!  Come join us some Thursday @ 6:30.

Cap City recap & upcoming events

Cap City recap 

Several of our Run Club ladies ran the Capital City Half Marathon this past Saturday.  It was a great race and everyone did a fabulous job!  Katie, Amanda and Deedra all finished the 13.1 mile distance for the first time, lots of calorie burning and photography took place and it was a fun filled morning!  Check out our gallery below…

 

In other news…

  • Living Fit [Columbus] is partnering with lululemon athletica Polaris [also known as PTOWN] to host a Thursday night social run!  The group runs begin this Thursday, MAY 8th, and will be promoted as ptown run club.  We will meet in Historic Dublin in the Town Center lot near Starbucks.  Come join us and bring a friend!
