Living Fit Spring RUN+YOGA Challenge & FORE! Miler Training

We love fitness and community.  This challenge involves both!

Many of our runners are doing the FORE! Miler this May so we’ve created a fun training plan with multiple weekly challenges.  Of course many of them involve photos, so don’t forget your camera phone.  Our schedule is below.  Attend weekly group runs for more details and to ask questions about mileage, etc.

The first group event is this Thursday, our spring kickoff run.  We will meet at the Town Lot in Historic Dublin (behind Starbucks), run 3-4 social miles, then end at Vitality Smoothie & Juice for samples and giveaways from several companies including lululemon athletica polaris, Crazy Richard’s Peanut Butter, Vitafusion, Winans and more!

Hope you will join in the fun!

Living Fit Columbus [8 week] Winter Fitness Challenge

Our third annual winter challenge kicked off yesterday!  We had a great turnout for the RUN+YOGA event we helped put together @ Bend Active, with several of our Living Fit Run Club runners…

The eight week challenge helps us all stay motivated and accountable during the winter months, when outdoor runs become a challenge.  Its all on an ‘honor’ system of various ways to earn & log points including;

  • Keeping track of a point calendar each week [earn points by working out, drinking water, giving up sweets and motivating friends]
  • Setting and meeting weekly personal fitness/wellness goals
  • Completing weekly bonus challenges

It may seem like a lot of tedious point counting, but it works and it CAN be fun!  Its evolved over the last few years and we’ve grown it this year to 30+ participants!  Woo hoo!

This year we are also lucky enough to have several local businesses participating, offering support and even prizes.  These businesses include;

  • NOOMA [a clean, hydrating drink company based out of Cleveland]
  • Harbor Yoga [one of our local favorites!]
  • Bend Active [Fitness meets Fashion! – Yoga, running and comfy apparel for all!]
  • Winans Dublin [Coffee & chocolate shop where our Saturday group runs start & finish]

Screen Shot 2014-12-08 at 8.48.44 AMScreen Shot 2014-12-08 at 8.48.44 AM

You have to attend at least one Living Fit Columbus event to be eligible for prizes & this is the last week to enter!  Make sure you email us at LivingFitColumbus@gmail.com if you’re interested in more details.

GOOD LUCK to all our participants!  May the odds be ever in your favor!!

Run + Yoga Living Fit group schedule

Winter brings colder temperatures, inclement weather and… more yoga!  As much as we love running, when its 10 degrees and the street is covered with 6 inches of snow, a [heated] yoga class sounds much more appealing.  Keep up your endurance by hitting the treadmill every now and then, but come join us for some yoga love!

Here is our [tentative] winter schedule.  It may change based on weather (we won’t meet if its below 20/25 degrees ) and other items that come about.  We’ll keep you posted via our FB page!

  • Sat Nov 22 – RUN

  • Sat Nov 29 – NOT MEETING – Enjoy your families over the holidays 🙂

Several of our groupies met yesterday for our group run and coffee.  Autumn flavors are here!

A few others met on their own this weekend to tackle various mileage.  These two dolls tackled yet another TWENTY MILER!  Yay girls, a job well done!

They stopped along the way to do some yogi stretches and refueled after, as they should.

Sunday = YOGA   Screen Shot 2014-09-21 at 9.08.49 PM

Lululemon athletica declared a National Yoga Day this year. All of their Canada stores participated and hope the U.S. follows suit next year.  We can all play together!

POGA took place tonight.  I [Teresa] personally couldn’t attend, but it looks like it was a fun event.

Yoga around here was just a short 10 minute session on the mat.  If you ever just need [or want] a short in-home session, check out Yoga with Adriene.  She has tons of FREE videos, lots of them beginner-friendly.

If fear has been holding you back lately, let it go. Try a new yoga pose.  Start that business.  Take the leap of faith you’ve been waiting to take.  Or perhaps, just pray about it and wait patiently.

Hope you can benefit from a little bit of positive inspiration to kick off the weekend.  We have a group run tomorrow morning ~  see you there!

Tour of Columbus ~ Emerald City Quarter [and half] Marathon

Several of our Living Fit Columbus and ptown runners participated in the Emerald City Half and Quarter Marathon yesterday in Dublin.  Our runners all did the quarter and everyone finished strong!

IMG_6680

6:30AM and ready to run!

The race is hosted by M3S Sports and the main sponsor this year was Ohio Health.  The pacers were provided by MIT and ours helped us finish ahead of schedule.  Even though Amanda, Teresa, Deedra and Christine all set a new PR, the Snowville Creamery chocolate milk at the end was probably the best thing about the whole day. 🙂

We all had a great race and hope to make it a Living Fit Columbus tradition!

Independence FIT Celebration[s]

[tgellenbeck]

Today’s exercise…

We got in our workout today ~ an Independence 3 mile run or 2 mile walk [choice].  Lots of neighbors, strollers and fitness fun! And of course, we got coffee afterwards @ Winans Dublin.

30 day Yoga challenge…

We are taking a yoga REST today (can’t quite tackle the fallen angel pose from #independencearmy anyhow) but will double up and do at least 20 minutes tomorrow.   Don’t EVER feel guilty if you need to adjust your training plans every now and then and ALWAYS give your body a chance to rest!  We did do some stretching after our run, so you can count that if you must 🙂

Instagram challenge… Get DOWN dog!

Today’s post request was your favorite yoga pose. Although we didn’t do a full yoga session today, we did make time to bust out our favorite pose!  Teresa chose DOWNWARD DOG.  Not only is this move a relaxing stretch of the lower back and hamstrings (great for runners), it is also one of JPs favorite things to do.  Call it downward dog or Londong bridge… he loves to do it, watch it, climb on it!  A few photos for your viewing pleasure…

And last but not least, today’s inspirational quote…

See you tomorrow!

Living Fit [Columbus] June updates

The last month has brought a lot of FIT memories including…

  • Short North walking tour ~ this was more food than fitness, but we did learn about spices and how to make dishes healthy, but tasty. And we did walk 1.5 miles, so it was some fitness!
  • POGA classes ~ Post your pics@ #Pogacolumbus
  • [Teresa, Joey & Carrie] A trip to Hilton Head which included walks and jogs on the beach, tennis, biking & beach yoga with Jiva Yoga Center
  • Our weekly runs ~ Thursdays with lululemon polaris and Saturdays @ Winans coffee shop in Dublin ~ including a few speed sessions @ the track
  • Watching the World Cup [this counts, right?!] U-S-A!
  • [Teresa, Joey & Peggy] Currently in Wisconsin, looking forward to our first ever Stand Up Paddleboard [SUP] yoga session on Sunday
  • Strength & movement class and a FITness photo shoot with Lori Crock from Movestrong Kettlebells in Dublin ~ RECAP BELOW….

Lori created a Strength and Movement class just for us runners!  What I love about Lori is that she asks your fitness goals and then creates custom workouts to meet those goals [vs having a set program and expecting you to adapt to it!]  We want to cross train and build strength as runners so she incorporated that into our routine.

We met in her garage studio in the back, although she will soon be moving locations.  Lori had us do circuits of all things strength including rope climbing, ax chopping, kettle bell swinging and deadlifts… SO. MANY. DEADLIFTS!  Our heart rates were up the entire time and it was an excellent workout.  Its funny how your body adapts to certain exercises… I can run 6 miles with no side effects, but after Lori’s class I was sore [in a good way] for days.  My glutes were the most sore, those dang deadlifts!  I would highly recommend Lori if you are looking to mix up your normal routine.  She specializes in kettle bell classes, but also offers a variety of other movement classes.

We hope to give overviews/reviews of more of these activities individually, but for now you can just look for yourself through our gallery below.  They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so this should do for now…

Hope you will make some time to join us for some events this summer.
